The 2021 Explorer comes equipped with RWD to maximize performance and design. Rear-wheel drive architecture enables a sportier, more athletic design, improved on- and off-road capability and 600 pounds more in maximum towing capacity when equipped with the Class III Trailer Tow Package.

Towing and Trailer Sway Control

Building on AdvaceTrac^® with Roll Stability Control^™, standard trailer sway control selectively brakes and adjusts engine power to maintain trailer control.* The result is stability and control, even when towing large loads. When equipped with the class III trailer tow package and the 3.0L V6 engine, the Explorer can tow a maximum of 5,600lbs.* The Class III Trailer Tow Package is available with the 2.3L EcoBoost^® and 3.3L hybrid engines and comes standard with the 3.0L EcoBoost^® engine.
